AI writing detection: infini-gram finds distinctive phrases; GrantaGate story traced to fan fiction

Ai2's infini-gram engine is used to analyze AI-generated text. Tuhin Chakrabarty's group at Stony Brook scaled the method to books, counting phrases that appear in five or fewer books on Google Books and nowhere on the indexed web to distinguish distinctive phrasing from clichés. They applied it to the GrantaGate story, finding distinctive fragments in existing online writing, particularly on a fan fiction site.
