Ai2 Uses infini-gram to Trace AI Writing, Revealing Copying Patterns in Amazon Books

Ai2 introduced its infini-gram engine in a recent blog post. The tool indexes massive text datasets, allowing researchers to search and count phrase occurrences in AI-generated text to determine if it echoes existing training data.
Following the 'GrantaGate' controversy, researchers used the tool to analyze top-selling self-published Amazon books. Data reveals that the top 200 books with substantial detected AI text contained rare expressions from existing books at a rate of 41.6%, significantly higher than the 37.2% in non-AI books, and dropping to 19.1% for award-winning literature.
