The author proposes a new perspective on how LLMs will alter science:
- We already live in a world where most human output is wrong and expensive to verify; true 'progress' relies on the 'gems' discovered and rediscovered by a larger ecosystem.
- LLMs will mechanically find more of these gems.
- Although LLMs might also increase the production of slop, their main impact on accelerating gem discovery will strictly improve the scientific process overall.
