Google Cancels Standalone AI Studio App, Disappointing 800K Pre-Registrations

Google AI Studio officially announced a shift in its mobile strategy, canceling its highly anticipated standalone mobile app, which had accumulated around 800,000 pre-orders on iOS and Android.
Instead of asking users to download another app, the team decided to partner with the Gemini app team to integrate building capabilities directly into everyday conversations within the Gemini app. However, this decision has sparked strong dissatisfaction among some developers and users who argue that the market actually wanted a dedicated AI Studio builder tool, not a bloated Gemini super app.
