a16z: The Intelligence Explosion is a Manufacturing Explosion

a16z published an article titled "Moar Machines," arguing that the intelligence explosion is essentially a manufacturing explosion. Although public markets are engaged in a delicate dance over AI winners and losers, AI demand and spend show no signs of slowing.

The article uses Vertiv, a major supplier of data center power and cooling infrastructure, as a case study to analyze the AI infra supply chain. Despite adding a massive $3.27B in revenue for Q2, Vertiv still missed its revenue guidance due to temporary supply chain congestion and the increasing complexity of project execution.

This indicates that while the demand for AI infrastructure is huge, supply chain bottlenecks are becoming a critical factor limiting the scale and pace of deployments.
