Science Corporation's Bionic Eye PRIMA Wins EU Approval to Restore Vision

PRIMA, a wireless bionic eye implant developed by Science Corporation, has officially received regulatory approval from the European Union for commercial launch. It is specifically designed to treat geographic atrophy, the advanced stage of dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
The device is an ultra-thin subretinal microchip that acts as an artificial retina. Paired with camera-equipped glasses, the system projects near-infrared light onto the implant, which converts visual information into electrical signals that the brain translates into functional sight. This allows patients who lost their central field of vision to perceive shapes and patterns again.
Clinical trials published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) show that over 80% of patients experienced meaningful vision restoration, demonstrating a life-changing impact.
