Roboticists Debate: Tactile Perception is Harder to Achieve than Dexterity

Robotics practitioners recently engaged in a discussion on X, arguing that current humanoid robotics companies are overly obsessed with bipedal walking demos, while the real commercial value and technological moat lies in dexterous manipulation. One expert further noted that compared to the flexibility of hand movements, giving robotic hands tactile perception comparable to human skin (such as sensing material, friction, and temperature) is an even harder challenge to overcome.
