Out of Control: Google Rolls Back Google Earth AI Image Generation Over Safety Flaws

Google launched an AI image generation feature for Google Earth on July 30, built on its satellite and 3D imagery, but withdrew it just one day later due to safety guardrail failures.
Testing revealed that users could easily generate policy-violating images, including refugees near the Mexican border, a nuclear plant in Iran, and a bombed hospital in Gaza. Google stated they are rolling back the feature to implement stronger guardrails after users shared violating screenshots, despite previous claims of having SynthID watermarks and harmful topic prevention.
