The AI research community is facing a severe peer review crisis due to a surge in AI-generated papers. TMLR (Transactions on Machine Learning Research) submissions have 4x'd, largely fueled by single authors with no previous ML publications.
This massive influx, combined with a lack of community reviewing bandwidth, has led to stricter submission policies. Experts worry that this will result in additional gatekeeping and credentialism in the short term, potentially stifling genuine academic innovation.
