Hermes Desktop Launches Native Plugin SDK with Hot-Reloading and Deep UI Customization

NousResearch · x · 2026-08-01

Hermes Desktop by NousResearch has officially released its native desktop Plugin SDK alongside its first official plugin, Kanban.

Following a VS Code-style module model, the SDK allows developers to import a single module (@hermes/plugin-sdk) to access the app's live state, JSON-RPC gateway, scoped REST/socket backend namespace, and native UI kit. Plugins are single ESM files that the app loads within seconds when dropped into a specific directory, featuring hot-reloading on save without the need for repo cloning or app source patching.

The SDK enables deep integration into the application interface, allowing plugins to add their own panes, sidebar navigation, hotkeys, status bar actions, and backend endpoints for a fully native experience.
