AI Token Processing Enters the Quintillions, Networking Market Set for 390X Growth
Beth_Kindig · x · 2026-08-01
As AI inference demand skyrockets, global annual token processing has jumped from trillions to quintillions. A new analysis by I/O Fund highlights that compute, networking, and power companies are positioned as the primary beneficiaries.
The report notes that while model optimizations lower the cost per token, they also drive higher token consumption, creating a cycle where demand growth continuously outpaces efficiency gains. One key networking market is projected to surge from $100M in 2025 to $39B by 2030—a 390X increase. Nvidia's Rubin architecture, optical networking, and readily available power are identified as critical solutions for data centers to handle this massive scaling.
