Coding Agent Boom: Voice AI TAM Expands 100x

AssemblyAI · x · 2026-08-01

In a Twitter thread, AssemblyAI highlighted a major shift in the AI industry's customer base: with the explosion of coding agents like Lovable and Claude Code, "everyone's an engineer now."

Historically, the primary consumers of voice AI APIs were dedicated engineering teams. Today, non-technical users can build systems using coding agents. For example, a lawn-care chain can now automate its back office using Lovable and Claude Code on top of voice infrastructure. This trend has expanded the Total Addressable Market (TAM) for voice AI by roughly 100x.

Furthermore, the newest voice models (like Universal-3.5 Pro) now take environmental context into account, significantly improving interference resilience in noisy settings such as drive-thrus.
