In a Twitter thread, AssemblyAI discussed a core ethical and user-experience dilemma facing voice AI agents: should they proactively disclose that they are AI?

Currently, text agents typically identify themselves, but voice agents often try to pass as human. The reason is highly practical—once an AI discloses its identity, the person on the other end usually hangs up immediately.
