Comparing 4 AI Agent Observability Platforms: Logfire Takes the Crown with Native SQL
samuelcolvin · x · 2026-07-31
Pydantic founder Samuel Colvin shared an in-depth comparison of AI agent observability tools. The project writes identical traces into four OpenTelemetry-based platforms (Logfire, Braintrust, LangSmith, and Langfuse) and benchmarks how well they return data via their read APIs.
Results & Highlights:
- Logfire (Pydantic) ranked 1st with a score of 96.40. Its winning edge includes arbitrary SQL queries over raw spans, verbatim return of genai. semantic conventions, and actual delivery of 4 export formats (JSON/NDJSON/CSV/Arrow).
- The test used identical scenarios (direct Anthropic call, Pydantic AI agent with tool-calling, MCP-powered agent) to ensure fairness.
