- Visual assistance dominates: Workers photograph parts or wiring panels to ask AI about wear or faults.
- Automotive technicians lead: They heavily use AI to read test results and trace faults, with multimodal usage more than double the baseline.
- Assistance over replacement: 82% of AI use in manual tasks is for information retrieval and learning, with only 4% being end-to-end automation.
The report emphasizes that the key enabler is the model's multimodal understanding—taking in images or video to reason about a scene, rather than just generating text.
