Your Agent Doesn't Have a Memory Problem, It Lacks Understanding
theomitsa · x · 2026-07-31
While the industry is obsessed with adding memory to AI agents, the article argues that the real bottleneck preventing agents from handling real business data isn't forgetfulness, but a lack of deep understanding.
Current memory systems mainly solve persistence and retrieval, but most rely on similarity in embedding space to rank text fragments. This leads agents to confidently get the meaning wrong, even when they recall the right-looking documents and quote correct numbers. The author believes memory solves statelessness, not meaning, and that knowledge graphs are the key to structured reasoning.
