Grok App Builder Deployment Bug: Missing DB Config in Prod Causes 500 Errors
Daniel_Farinax · x · 2026-07-31
A developer reported a critical roadblock when deploying apps built with xAI's Grok App Builder.
- Issue: While the preview environment works perfectly, the production site (deployed on Vercel/custom domains) throws a 500 error during sign-in.
- Cause: The production environment lacks the DATABASEURL variable, causing Better Auth and Neon Postgres to fail wiring up. The system throws a "database is not linked to this publish" error.
- Question: It remains unclear if Neon/Postgres is supposed to auto-provision on publish, and developers are currently struggling to get a real DB and auth working on published Grok-built apps.
