Google's Chief Scientist Jeff Dean predicts that by 2027, we will see significant automation within machine learning systems themselves. ML systems will increasingly improve their own capabilities by autonomously running massive numbers of experiments.
He noted that this shift towards automated self-improvement will apply not only to machine learning but to any field of science or engineering that possesses a measurable objective.
