Opinion: Open Weights Do Not Equate to True Open Source

The author argues that many models in the AI community marketed as "open source" are merely open weights. True open source should include components like datasets with provenance and replicable recipes.
However, very few serious parties currently advocate for or practice this level of transparency, which the author finds curious.
