According to White House official Michael Kratsios, Moonshot allegedly accessed banned Nvidia GB300 chips via servers in Thailand to train the Kimi K3 model.
The GB300 chips belong to the cutting-edge Blackwell generation and are explicitly under US export controls to China. Additionally, Moonshot is accused of distilling Anthropic's models. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is now threatening sanctions, and the Senate is reviewing legislation to close the cloud-access loophole exploited by Chinese firms. Meanwhile, Kimi K3 has already narrowed the benchmark gap with models like GPT 5.6 Sol and Fable 5.
