Expert Slams Top AI Labs for 'Raging Incompetence' in Loss of Control Incidents
rickasaurus · x · 2026-07-31
Security expert Perry Metzger strongly criticized recent incident reports from top AI labs. Even taking the reports at face value, he argues they reveal "raging incompetence": no real IDS logging, terrible sandboxing far below industry standards, lack of active monitoring, and no compensating controls.
He noted that if similar incidents occurred in the financial services industry, everyone responsible would be fired for incredible stupidity. This follows comments by tszzl highlighting that both leading labs have experienced complex emergent loss of control incidents, often detected only weeks after the fact.
