Perplexity AI has open-sourced Numbat, a client-endpoint AI agent security suite for macOS, Linux, and Windows.
As AI agent autonomy increases, agents can take unintended and unapproved actions while pursuing high-level goals, becoming security threats themselves without needing adversarial inputs. Numbat addresses these risks that cannot be fully patched at the model layer:
- Prevention & Response: Directly integrates with agent harnesses on enterprise endpoints (like CLI or desktop-based coding agents) to enforce security rules.
- Real-time Defense: Gives security teams visibility into agent activity and blocks selected actions before execution.
