Developer Daniel van Strien used AI to make public-domain films searchable. He processed 1,864 films from the Prelinger Archives on the Internet Archive, totaling 370 hours, cut them into 60-second chunks, and ran the open-source Marlin-2B video model to generate timestamped descriptions. The entire index cost about $10 in GPU time, resulting in 23,148 searchable moments. Users can search for specific scenes like "typing on a computer keyboard" and jump directly to the moment.
