Seamlessly Swapping Three MCP Clients on a Single Browser Session
Mean-Standard7390 · reddit · 2026-07-31
The E2LLM/SiFR team demonstrated a mid-task client swap using the MCP protocol: within a single signed-in browser tab, a task can be handed off from Claude to ChatGPT, and then to Perplexity.
Key Technical Points:
- State Decoupling: Session state lives browser-side rather than in the client, enabling mid-task swaps.
- Unified Interface: All clients call the same MCP tools (e.g., sifrcapture, inspect, act) and receive a structured SiFR view of the page (roles, text, actionable elements, selectors).
- No Restart: The handoff is manual and requires no browser restart or loss of page state.
The team also open-sourced the MIT-licensed SiFR specification and provided MCP add-ons for Chrome and Firefox.
