AI hedge fund by ex-OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner sells public portfolio to Citadel after steep losses

Situational Awareness, an AI hedge fund founded by former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner, has sold the majority of its public stock portfolio to Ken Griffin’s Citadel following steep losses over the past month, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Aschenbrenner gained prominence for his thesis on the massive infrastructure build-out required for AI scaling. He joined OpenAI’s superalignment team at age 23 after graduating from Columbia at 19, but was dismissed a year later over improper disclosure of internal information. Despite the public market setback, the fund still retains its shares in Anthropic.
