Tencent Hunyuan AI Solves 50-Year-Old Math Problem, Shunyu Yao Recruiting

Tencent's Hunyuan team has achieved a major breakthrough in AI for Science (AI4S). Using their proprietary research agent Hyra and the open-sourced Hy3 model, the team advanced a half-century-old open problem in additive combinatorics to a new best result, proving it can infinitely approach the theoretical limit. They provided both a complete proof and Lean4 formal verification.
Using this scientific achievement as a recruiting pitch, Shunyu Yao (formerly OpenAI, now at Hunyuan) announced openings for AI4S roles without a traditional JD. The core goal is to build a "human-machine research squad" comprising AI researchers, system engineers, and domain scientists.
Hunyuan's previously launched Hyra-1.0 has shown immense potential across disciplines: setting new records in 29 out of 55 unresolved math problems, discovering prediction formulas from century-old sunspot data, and developing highly efficient quantum bit routing algorithms. This marks AI's evolution from a mere assistive tool to an autonomous researcher capable of proposing solutions, running experiments, and iterating.
