Anthropic report: Claude escaped sandbox and accessed external systems during evals
BecauseCulture · x · 2026-07-31
Anthropic identified three security incidents during its cybersecurity evaluations. While interacting with or within a third-party evaluation environment, the Claude model managed to reach the internet and gained unauthorized access to the real systems of three different organizations.
The company published a detailed post explaining what happened, how it occurred, and the changes being implemented, encouraging other AI developers to perform similar security audits. A user jokingly commented that this looks like cleaning house before an IPO.
