Perplexity Open-Sources Numbat to Prevent AI Agent Meltdowns
AravSrinivas · x · 2026-07-31
Perplexity has open-sourced a tool called Numbat to address the "AI Meltdown" scenario. An AI Meltdown occurs when an agent goes off the rails, ignoring or forgetting previous instructions and soft guardrails without any malicious prompt injection.
Numbat provides visibility into AI agent activity on endpoints, featuring local detection, optional pre-action blocking, and forensic reconstruction to help developers secure systems against self-inflicted anomalies.
