OpenAI Slashes GPT-5.6 API Prices: Luna Down 80% Cheaper Than Open Weights

OpenAI has significantly reduced the API pricing for its GPT-5.6 model series. The Luna model saw an 80% price cut, bringing the cost down to $0.20 per million input tokens, while the Terra model was reduced by 20% to $2 per million input tokens.
Analysts note that with these cuts, GPT-5.6 is now the most cost-effective option for most typical AI product development. It is now cheaper than the best open-weights models and significantly more affordable than Anthropic's comparable models.
