GitHub Docs Launch Stacked Pull Requests to Break Down Large Code Changes
film_girl · x · 2026-07-31
GitHub has officially added documentation for Stacked Pull Requests. This feature allows developers to break large code changes into a chain of smaller, dependent pull requests that can be reviewed and merged independently.
The official guides cover:
- Installing the gh stack CLI extension and creating your first stack
- Restructuring stacks, rebasing branches, and modifying lower layers
- Merging from the bottom up, individually, or in contiguous groups
- Optimizing GitHub Actions CI workflows to reduce redundant runs
