Altman on AGI Wealth: Cluster Owners Take the Lion's Share

When asked how ordinary people will survive in the AGI era, Sam Altman candidly stated that most of the value created by AGI will initially accrue to the owners of the compute clusters (i.e., OpenAI and similar tech giants). He noted that society will quickly realize the need for a new economic model to redistribute this wealth.

Preferring "Universal Basic Wealth" over Universal Income (UBI), Altman argued that simply sending monthly checks is insufficient. People need ownership shares in AI-generated assets that compound over time, rather than relying on the continued goodwill of an allowance. He also emphasized that humans will remain essential for inventing and distributing new culture.
