Assuming the cost of building software goes to zero, one view is SaaS dies. An alternative: companies stop selling software and sell agents. For example, next-gen Zendesk is open source Zendesk plus a competitive agent product. Competition at the agent layer is complicated with OpenAI competing. The author feels that as costs drop and extensibility demand rises, open source SaaS is structured for long-term competitive dynamics.
