Percy Liang's Simile: Building Foundation Models to Predict Human Behavior

Stanford professor Percy Liang announced plans to scale up Simile. The core ambition of the company is to build a foundation model capable of predicting what anyone will do in any given situation.
Liang compared Simile's current stage in 2026 to OpenAI in 2019 for AI assistants: showing signs of life and a path to scaling, though many open research questions remain. Commercially, Simile is already operating as a company with several enterprise partners who understand the potential of simulation. The team is also actively hiring.
