Thinking Machines Launches Inkling Small: 12B Active Params Matches Flagship Performance

Thinking Machines has released its second model, Inkling Small. It is a 276B parameter MoE model with only 12B active parameters, less than a third of its flagship sibling.
On the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, Inkling Small scores 40, coming within a point of the flagship Inkling model (41). No open weights model at its size or smaller scores higher. For comparison, DeepSeek V4 Flash (13B active) achieves the same score, while MiniMax-M2.7 (10B active) sits 2 points lower.
