Biomni-Tuso: An AI Agent That Automates Bio AI Model Research
KexinHuang5 · x · 2026-07-31
Biomni-Tuso is a novel framework for automated biological AI research. It acts like an AI bio researcher: reading literature, considering orthogonal bio data sources, and testing fundamentally different modeling ideas, rather than just tuning hyperparameters.
The team asked Biomni to develop a genetic perturbation prediction model. Over five days, it explored 500 configurations and discovered a new method that outperformed leading approaches across multiple benchmarks. The same recipe has since been successfully applied to protein structure representation learning, enhancer–gene linking, and ligand binding.
The authors believe this is where bio AI model research is headed—researchers can simply describe a problem in natural language and let the AI explore hundreds of ideas.
