ICLR 2027 Introduces Authorship Quotas to Curb Paper Submissions

JessicaHullman · x · 2026-07-31

The top machine learning conference ICLR 2027 has announced a new policy imposing strict authorship quotas on paper submissions.

The new rules dictate that no author can submit more than 20 papers. Additionally, there is a limit of 1 submission where none of the authors have previously had a paper accepted to a major ML conference. This move is widely seen as an effort to curb the growing trend of paper milking and honorary authorships in the academic community.
