Nature Study: State Media Control Significantly Influences LLM Bias

A new study published in Nature reveals that state media control already impacts LLM outputs via training data. A cross-national audit shows LLMs exhibit stronger pro-government valence in languages of countries with lower media freedom. The authors warn that states have strategic incentives to leverage media control to shape AI outputs.
