Study: Amazon Flooded with AI-Generated Books, Crowding Out Human Authors
TuhinChakr · x · 2026-07-30
A new study highlights the impact of generative AI on the self-publishing market. Armed with AI text detection tools, researchers analyzed self-published genre fiction sold on Amazon from 2023 to March 2026.
The findings reveal that Amazon is flooded with books containing substantial AI-generated text. These books are not only earning significant revenue but are also crowding out the sales of non-AI books. The study notes that an AI book doesn't need to be high quality to have a market impact; the sheer volume of thousands of copies enabled by generative AI is enough to disrupt the ecosystem.
