Claude Still Hallucinates with Web Search: Fabricates Scholar's Move to MIT

AI researcher Vincent Conitzer discovered that Claude completely fabricated information claiming he had moved to work at MIT.
Notably, even though web search appeared to be enabled in the response (indicated by a citation link at the end), the model still suffered from a severe hallucination. This shows that current Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) mechanisms cannot entirely prevent LLMs from making things up.
