OpenAI and Anthropic Accused of Cannibalizing Their Largest Enterprise Customers
dyn___ · x · 2026-07-30
Analysts point out that OpenAI and Anthropic are increasingly cannibalizing their biggest enterprise customers by launching competing products. This vertical integration is already happening:
- Anthropic vs Figma: After partnering on AI design tools, Anthropic’s product chief left Figma’s board and launched Claude Design days later. Figma’s CEO said Anthropic was "not consistently candid."
- Anthropic vs Harvey: Legal AI firm Harvey uses Claude for contract analysis, but Anthropic now directly offers similar workflows via Claude for Legal.
- OpenAI vs Microsoft: Despite Microsoft's billions in investment, OpenAI is reportedly building a jobs platform and code repository to compete with Microsoft-owned LinkedIn and GitHub.
- Anthropic vs Pharma: Novo Nordisk uses Claude for drug development, while Anthropic has started developing its own drugs.
Investor Chamath noted in a quote tweet that any end market with reasonable ROCE that could be AI-accelerated is fair game for these model providers.
