OpenAI Authorizes METR and Redwood for Independent Review of Model Behavior
dhadfieldmenell · x · 2026-07-30
Independent safety evaluation agency METR announced an agreement with OpenAI to conduct an independent review, alongside Redwood Research, into the model behavior observed during the recent Hugging Face incident.
Industry commentators view this as a positive step. While public independent reviews should ideally be the baseline for AI companies, the current reality is that many do not proactively allow them. This move demonstrates OpenAI's progress in transparency and is commendable.
