The Digital Brain Project has announced two major updates: the selection of its first cohort of 9 academic research teams and the scaling up of its total funding to $15 million.
Coordinated by the Rothschild Hospital Foundation, the project aims to collect and open-source neural data to build foundational AI models of the human brain for science and medicine.
Core Goals and Approach
- Data Collection: Global neuroscientific teams will collaborate to record brain activity while participants play complex interactive games inside brain scanners.
- Model Training: A digital brain model will be trained on an estimated 15,000 hours of naturalistic brain activity data.
- Evaluation: The trained model will be validated against cognitive benchmarks (perception, memory, attention) and reasoning benchmarks (planning, logic).
This initiative seeks to unravel how the human brain reasons and decides, ultimately accelerating the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases.
