Claude Code Can Orchestrate Thousands of Agents for 11-Day Coding Sessions, Says Anthropic

Boris Cherny, creator of Claude Code at Anthropic, shared the latest progress and future direction of AI coding agents:
- Large-Scale Agent Orchestration: Claude Code can now orchestrate dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of AI agents working together 24/7 to solve single complex problems through dynamic workflows.
- Ultra-Long Task Execution: In one example, Claude spent over 11 days helping rewrite a massive JavaScript runtime from Zig to Rust, a task that could take human engineers more than a year.
- Automated Production Maintenance: Anthropic currently runs daily AI routines that automatically clean dead code, write and remove tests, unify duplicate abstractions, and maintain multiple production codebases.
According to Cherny, this represents a new form of test-time compute where AI dynamically coordinates thousands of specialized agents to tackle complex challenges that would be difficult or impractical for humans.
