jQuery UI Creator: The Bottleneck for AI Code is Editing and Judgment, Not Tooling

Paul Bakaus, creator of jQuery UI and an a16z-backed solo founder, argues that the main issue with AI-generated content—whether code, writing, or design—is 'output density' and excessive verbosity.
He points out that AI agents often produce too much clutter, making products feel generic. According to Bakaus, the scarce human skill today isn't generation, but judgment: knowing exactly what to remove.
Admitting he had to rewrite his own AI-drafted announcements from scratch, he emphasizes that design is an iterative process requiring a human point of view. No tool can perfectly one-shot the process yet. If AI output feels technically fine but generic, the diagnosis isn't a tooling gap, but an editing gap.
