Claude Code Creator Advises Deleting Old Instructions for Opus 5

Boris Cherny, creator of Claude Code, advised at a Y Combinator event that users should periodically clean up legacy configurations as models evolve. For non-agent builders, he suggests deleting your claude.md, skills, and hooks every 6 months to see what the model can do natively. He specifically highlighted that for the upcoming Opus 5, they strongly recommend stripping away all these extensive instructions, as the new model will no longer require them.
