Amazon Flooded with AI-Generated Books, Crowding Out Human Authors: Study
TuhinChakr · x · 2026-07-30
A new study on AI and copyright reveals that Amazon is flooded with self-published genre fiction containing substantial AI-generated text. Using full-text AI detection from Pangram, researchers analyzed books from 2023 to March 2026.
The findings show these AI-generated books are earning significant revenue and actively crowding out sales of non-AI books. The research highlights that generative AI enables massive-scale production of low-quality content, which can have a substantial market impact simply through volume.
