Nvidia Launches AI Video Detector, Claiming 92% Accuracy

As the barrier to generating AI videos lowers, Nvidia has introduced the Synthetic Video Detector NIM. This tool identifies fake videos by analyzing underlying statistical characteristics and frequency domain traces left by generative models, claiming up to 92% accuracy on uncompressed videos.
The author compared Nvidia's tool with domestic alternatives like Tencent Zhuque and the Anti-Fraud Center app. Tests revealed that Nvidia's tool performed relatively stably, accurately identifying high-quality AI videos. In contrast, Tencent Zhuque frequently failed, even misidentifying real videos as AI-generated. The Anti-Fraud Center suffered from server issues, preventing smooth uploads.
The author concludes that current AI detection tools are generally weak and prone to false positives. Rather than post-hoc detection, embedding invisible watermarks (e.g., Google SynthID) and provenance records (e.g., C2PA) at generation is a more reliable approach, though interoperability among platforms remains a challenge.
