Testing AI for PDF Form Conversion: Claude Quits, GPT Struggles
ZeroStateReflex · x · 2026-07-30
A user shared their frustrating experience trying to use AI to convert a 60MB scanned iPhone PDF into a fillable electronic form.
- Tedious Preprocessing: The original scan was too large and high-res to process directly. It had to be converted to JPG, resized to letter dimensions, and grayscaled first.
- Poor Model Performance: Claude simply gave up on the task. GPT managed to attempt it but misaligned the text fields with the original form lines.
- Conclusion: AI currently cannot perfectly handle complex document-to-form conversions. The user ultimately had to rely on manual tweaking in Acrobat to fix text fields and add checkboxes.
