Contour: Open-Source Tool Turns 2D Maps into 3D Terrain with Gemini Voice Guide

An open-source project named Contour, which won 2nd place in the Google Gemini 3 Hackathon, allows users to upload 2D topographic maps (GeoTIFF or JPG/PNG). It automatically extracts bounds and fetches real elevation data from AWS Terrain Tiles to generate explorable 3D flyable terrain.

The standout feature is the integration of the Gemini Live API, providing a real-time voice tour guide. Users can soar over the 3D terrain using WASD + mouse controls while simultaneously chatting with Gemini via voice about the geographic features they are seeing.
