Study: Amazon Flooded with AI-Generated Books Crowding Out Human Authors

A new study utilized AI text detection to analyze self-published genre fiction on Amazon from 2023 to March 2026. It found that books containing substantial AI-generated text are not only earning significant revenue but are also crowding out the sales of non-AI books. The research suggests that even low-quality AI books can impact the market simply by existing in the thousands, a scale enabled by generative AI.
